Hilton Manufacturer vrs Insurance Approval

About - Hilton Coachworks

Hilton Coachworks was founded in 1984 by the present owner, Mr Peter Hilton. The fledgling business operated out of his parents double garage in Ugley Green, Hertfordshire, but soon outgrew the premises leading to a move to nearby Elsenham in 1993.

By now Peter had a staff of 10 people. Business flourished and the building next door was bought to allow further expansion. With an emphasis on high quality work and customer care it wasn't long before demand had increased so much that a further expansion was required. In 1997 a prime location became available in Bishops Stortford.

After gaining experience in the Mercedes-Benz product Hilton Coachworks decided to request manufacturer approval. Once the strict criteria was met approval was granted and further expansion took place to allow for the extra work.

By this time Peter had a co-director in his wife Sarah. After 6 years of hard work they were ready to take Hilton Coachworks to the top. This meant ultimately designing the "perfect" site. A suitable location was found on Raynham Road Industrial Estate in Bishops Stortford. In keeping with Peter and Sarah's forward thinking the site was big enough to cater for what was to become the largest Mercedes-Benz registered body centre in the United Kingdom. It offers 30000 sq ft in workshop space alone and has all the latest and best facilities, including 24 hour CCTV surveillance which ensures peace of mind for their customers. This is a far cry from the 600 sq ft garage where Hilton Coachworks was born.

Peter and Sarah now employ over 70 members of staff. Uniquely 5 of these operate within car dealerships throughout the South East of England with access to a fleet of over 110 courtesy cars and 3 lorries for transportation to and from these dealerships.
